Boiling wine in the furnace and talking with green plums. We all are heroes, who dares to come with us? On the evening of May 7, the second Chinese poetry conference hosted by the School of Education was held in the West Hall of the library. Eight teams and 24 players participated. Professor Zhang Yu from the Institute of Literature, Associate Professor Yang Bin from the School of International Cultural Exchange, Associate Professor Feng Lusheng and Dr. Zheng Yu from the School of Education attended as judges. Zhang Shouzhu, deputy secretary of the Party Branch of the School of Education, Jiang Wenjia, secretary of the Youth League Committee, and counselors Xu Ruixue and Zhang Ye attended the event.
This year's poetry conference was upgraded in an all-round way, which put higher demands on the poetry, originality and expressive ability of the contestants: The “Qu Shui Liu Shang”session required each group to show their poem according to the pre-specified theme and rhyme. During the show, the contestants integrated daily campus life such as enjoying the spring and studying while eating in the cafeteria into poems, which was very touching. The Poem Chain session and the Fei Hua Ling session tested the contestants their poetry reserve and the reaction on the spot, who were all graceful and poetic; in the Unavoidable Confrontation session, the contestants appreciated two poems of the Chairman Mao, Qing Ping Le Hui Chang and Cai Sang Zi Chongyang. The impromptu play of combining historical background with contemporary youth ideals and feelings won applause from the judges and audience. The innovative game session “ The East meeting the West increased the lively atmosphere, with the screen showing the translated version from translator Xu Yuanchong of some famous sentences like long distance separates no bosom friend and if my friend in the north should ask if I’m all tight, my heart is free of stain as ice in crystal vase and the audience guessing the original Chinese poem.
After fierce competition, the Night Boats team consisting of Hong Yu, Yao Min and Zhang Xiaoxue from the School of Journalism and Communication won the competition; the teams from the School of Education, School of Law, and School of Germanic Studies won the second and third place.
Chinese Poetry Conference is an important part of a series of activities of “Chinese Cultural Festival of the School of Education, this festival also included a series of activities such as carving salon, classics-handwriting salon , traditional opera workshops, the Chinese garden party, book club, etc., so as to provide teachers and students a platform to learn and perceive traditional culture. The School of Education also integrated the concept of ideological and political education into traditional Chinese culture and education. It used professional and interesting activities as the starting point, and let student Party members participate in the games and teachers teach the articles about youths’ growth, the application and promotion of patriotic poets' works. This way, the school guided students to improve their humanistic quality and practice socialist core value.
